To improve patient processing from admission to theatre, I overhauled the Emergency Board's outdated interface to prioritize clarity and action. I replaced a fragmented legacy system with a streamlined, customizable display that ensures mandatory prerequisites are never missed, bridging the gap between complex NCEPOD requirements and an intuitive, real-time user experience

Challenge vs solution

Challenge

The software was written in VB6 long time ago, the UI was outdated, the user flow was not seamless which increased the cognitive load.

Interactive elements requiring user input were hidden, and it was not clear that they require action.

Too much information displayed on one screen which lead to a cluttered display.

Solution

Suggested choice of newer technology and re-write to Angular. The UI look and feel adhered to the modern Telerik theme with minimal brand customisation. The theme styles resolved the UI elements appearance and solved the user input indication.

All functions required to satisfy the business model were there, however, the UI needed better infrastructure and user flow. These were addressed in interactive wireframes.

Research revealed that too much information displayed was a result of multiple client requirements. We allowed a configurable UI with a settings panel allowing each individual client to select data display catering to their needs.
