Project details

Android Scanner

Android Scanner is a mobile application allowing Sterile Services departments to process and track sterile equipment in hospital networks. The app allows tracking of trays and equipment from dispatch to the operating room (theatre) use, it provides facilities the ability to manage and test sterile machines and chemicals, monitor equipment cost and usage, and provide theatre departments with visibility of available resources. Furthermore, it provides priority and quarantine handling by allowing operators to raise non-conformancies and add details respecting individual hospital settings.

My duties

Gathering user requirements through business analysis.

Refining UI to modern Android platform.

Storyboards and wireframes in Axure.

Low-level UI design and brand placement (Photoshop).

UI layout and styles (Xamarin forms, XAML, global theme placement).

Continuous demos/user testing/feedback through user working groups.

Challenge vs solution

Challenge

The current software limited users to process one tray at a time.

The current business requirement of capturing user activity resulted in repeated operator logins.

Transfer functionality from outdated scanners to new Denso units.

Outdated hardware and technology.

Solution

The team has tried several new Android devices equipped with 2D and 3D scanners.

Android Denso unit was chosen, which resulted in code re-write to Xamarin Forms.

New technologies allowed the UI to follow a modern Material theme approach.

The latest UX standards allowed multiple trays scanning, and eliminated unnecessary steps in user flow.
